I have just returned from Crete, where I played the Paleochora Open. I fell in love with the small town of Paleochora in 2013, when I played there for the first time. It’s a small town with a magnificent sandy beach (called Sandy Beach) and a lot of tavernas that serve incredible food. The tournament is stronger every year and the organisers are the most pleasant people.
This year my tournament didn’t go so well, even though eventually I shared 10th place, thanks to wins in rounds 8 and 9. I was rusty for most of the tournament and my calculations lacked precision. The tournament was won by GM Borovikov with 7.5/9.
So I’ll keep this post chess-lite and instead I’ll post photos of the incredible town of Paleochora. Enjoy! (note that you can click on the photos to enlarge.)
